I think I’ll always be figuring things out.
My current work is a physical record of sorting through thoughts, ideas and emotions. The trajectory of life requires us to adjust, respond, and repurpose continually. Mostly abstractions, my work includes formal elements that are also wrestling to fit and to settle. At times, expressive mark making reflects restlessness and agitation, while sometimes a sensible solidity pervades. In any case, expressing an authentic self is the goal, however awkward that might be.
The ambiguous forms and spaces allow for possibilities; they fight the call to be defined and labelled. Our ability to embrace ambiguity, and even uncertainty, leaves us open to things that are new or that we may not understand, including people, values, and circumstances.
My recent drawings and paintings reflect this thought process where clarity doesn't always ensue.
